All-Star

I remember it well. It was august and my mom and I were going back-to-school clothes shopping. Each year I got a brand new pair of white canvas Keds which I wore daily until the little blue tag fell of the back. I then took some super glue to the little blue tag; assuring that it would hold in place for all eternity so that I could continue to look cool :)
This particular August I was going into 8th grade and was ever so concerned about fashion (in a junior high sense) no more keds for me; I wanted a pair of Converse All-Stars. I nervously asked my mom if I could get Converse instead of Keds and much to my delight she agreed. I chose a navy blue pair which were exactly the same as my best friend Katy Leonetti's blue Converse. Our other best fiend, Marie Herbig had the same shoes in the every so popular forest green. Katy, Marie and I would wear our Converse All-Stars daily and walk in a line down the halls of Southwest Christian School with our stir-up pants and our over size plaid shirts, some of which we "borrowed" from Mr.Herbig's closet. We didn't listen to the high-schooler's chiding "Is is matching day in the Jr.High!?" We were cool, we knew it, and you better believe that when the little rubber "All-Star" tags fell of the back we super-glued them back on.
Christy Turner claimed to be getting white Converse for Christmas and frankly we all couldn't see it. We thought they were going to be the ugliest things ever. After we got back from Christmas break she was sporting the amazing Jack Purcell Converse. A new world had been opened to us.
Throughout our time at Southwest Christian School many things changed. Stir-up pants went out of style; Marie had to stay across the hall with the Jr.Highers while we moved on to High-School and Katy Moved to another school, then across the country. We continued to wear our Jacks and I even had some of my graduation pictures taken in them. I stopped wearing them sometime in the years following high-school but was recently shoe-shopping and just had to do it. I ordered another pair of Jack Purcells and they should be arriving on Monday via UPS. I feel nostalgic and it makes me remember those goofy days. I think I may even try to track down Katy.

The best part about this blog is I remember being the 'Jeremy's little sister' and visiting your school and wishing our school would let us wear tennis shoes, stirrup pants, or even play real vollyball. Ahhh the memories!

My converse All stars were black and white and looked great with our HORRIBLE school uniforms.

i would color in the backs with a royal blue marker but it wasn't the same.

Mollie,
Sometimes we would take the tags off an old worn-out pair and glue it on a pair of the knock-offs!
