Creepy crawlies

Something has been eating away at our tomato plants. I couldn't see any bugs on the plants when I examined them but they were losing their leaves and buds and there were large parts of the not quite ripe tomatos eaten away.

Armed with kid and pet friendly insecticide I headed out to the tomato plants this morning. I began spraying away and then I saw it. The big huge mother of all hornworm caterpillars was eating away at our tomoatos! I can't tell you exactly why but the sight of this thing really creeped me out. I laugh in the face of poopy diapers but a silly fat green caterpillar makes me recoil in disgust.

After a through dousing of the insecticide I went inside but just couldn't stop thinking about those yucky bugs. You know how it is when you see a Discovery Channel special on spiders and start itching? Well, I checked for the things later in the day and didn't see them anywhere; not shriveled up on the ground and not still munching away at the plants. Hopefully they crawled into a dark hole for their last moments of life and I won't have to ever see them again.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I was weeding the front garden area and reached over to pick up a twig. ON the twig was a leaf. I thought. Turns out I stuck my hand right on a big, fat, slimy slug. I SHRIEKED. Mad running around the yard yelling, "I TOUCHED IT! OH MY GOSH, I TOUCHED IT!!!" J made me go inside while he disposed of it. I practically boiled my hand trying to remove the feeling and the thought of touching a slug. =D It's so gross.

Yuck! Slugs have to top the list of grossest things to touch! I did that once too, that slime is hard to get off!

hope your worms are shriveled and gone.

EW. I hate those things. I can handle spiders, mice, etc., but I really, really hate those HUGE nasty hornworms. Hopefully they will leave you alone from now on. :)
